Since 2013, Judge Catherine Evans has presided over the 180th Criminal District Court after Governor Rick Perry appointed her to that position. Prior to her appointment, she was a prosecutor for twelve years and tried cases of all types: capital murder, child abuse, fraud, intoxication manslaughter, and aggravated robbery. As first an attorney and then a judge, Judge Evans has handled thousands of felony criminal cases and calls upon that breadth of experience to discern where there is a threat to our community and where there is an opportunity for rehabilitation. Through an intensive probation program, she tailors probations to meet the individual needs of at-risk probationers.
Judge Evans graduated cum laude from the University of Houston Law Center in 2000. She volunteers locally as a Vice Chairman of Team Operations with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Speakers Committee. Additionally, she and her husband Jim also volunteer as Community Associates for Rice University, McMurtry College. They are proud parents of 6th grader Max and 4th grader Zoe, and they attend Christ the King Presbyterian Church.
