Judge Pam Derbyshire was elected as presiding judge of Harris County Criminal Court No. 7 in November, 1998 and took the bench on January 1, 1999. She presides over one of fifteen county criminal courts at law with countywide jurisdiction over serious misdemeanor cases such as driving while intoxicated, domestic violence, illegal possession of drugs, criminal pollution, and theft. Derbyshire earned her J.D. from the South Texas College of Law in 1982. Prior to her judicial election in 1998, Derbyshire was a lawyer in private practice. She previously worked as a federal prosecutor for the Southern District of Texas and a chief prosecutor for the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
